Eravikulam Wildlife Sanctuary is a sanctuary set up for the preservation of the endangered Nilgiri Tahr, mountain goats.

The main inhabitant of the park is Nilgiri Tahr, now the park has the largest known population of Tahrs existing in the world. The park also shelters Atlas Moth, Elephants, Sambars, Gaurs, Lion-tailed Macaque, Nilgiri, Langur, Tigers and Leopards.

Spread across an area of 97 square kilometers, the park exhibits the breathtaking natural splendor of rolling grasslands and exotic flowers. Anamudi, the highest peak south of Himalayas, towers over the sanctuary in majestic pride. The Atlas Moth, largest of its kind in the world, is a unique possession of the park.

Eravikulam National Park has a pleasant climate throughout the year. However during monsoon which is between June and August, Eravikulam National Park receives heavy and erratic rainfalls. April and May are the hottest months at the Eravikulam National Park. The best time to visit the national park is between September and December. January and February are breeding time of Nilgiri Tahr, so the visitor inside the park is not allowed.

By Air:
The nearest airport is at Cochin, 140kms.
By Rail:
Nearest railway station is located at Alwaye (Near Cochin), 115kms.
By Road:
The Park is 17kms from Munnar & Munnar is well connected by road, Cochin is 140kms, Madurai 150kms, Thekkady 110kms away.
